What to eat for macrobiotic breakfast
How to prepare macrobiotic breakfast, what should proper macrobiotic breakfast look like, what's the ideal morning meal for the macrobiotic diet? When you wake up, it's good to drink something before your macrobiotic morning breakfast. It's recommended to drink a pure water (preferably natural spring source) or light bancha tea. Drink it right after you wake up, if you are thirsty, or 30 minutes before you start eating.
For the first macrobiotic meal, it's recommended to prepare porridges, more watery versions of the whole cereals. Usually oat flakes are used for the morning porridge. But you can use any cereals from the previous day.
. Just add 1 or more cups of the water, bring to boil and add the whole grains and simmer (boil) for 5 and more minutes. You will make nice healthy porridge. You can add shoyu (tamari) or miso to make it more tasty, or just simple sea salt.
Prepare crispy vegetables to complement this morning porridge. The morning vegetables should be shortly boiled, to be still crispy. Add the heating time as the day progress. Morning energy should be refreshing, uplifting, more yin. And this is the energy of lightly cooked veggies. Preferred veggies are also the one with the uplifting energy like cabbage, broccoli, leek. Try to use different cooking styles. Sometimes bring 3/4 water full pot and quickly put the veggies in the boiling water for 1-3 minutes. Or 2 cm of water and simmering on a high heat. Or just steaming the veggies.
Use many different grains for the breakfast porridge. For the fast preparation are well suited oat flakes, kuskus and instant porridges.
As for the leftovers use any of the favourite whole grains like rice, millet, oat, rye, barley, wheat, buckwheat.
Also use something green on top of your morning breakfast porridge - scallion, watercress and similar. Just 1 teaspoon of greens is enough to provide you with the fresh Spring/morning energy.
The morning time is associated with the Tree element (Five star ki) and also the Spring time is of the Tree element time. You need to provide enough water and uplifting energy to start your macrobiotic day.
Use macrobiotic sweeteners if you really like sweet taste right at the morning. You can sweeten your porridge with amasake, barley or rice malt, barley/rice/corn sirup, fruits (dried, lightly cooked with a pinch of salt, raw).
